A gamelan scholar will be a student musician with strong aural and rhythmic skills who models rhythmic strength within the Bates Gamelan Ensemble. Prior experience with gamelan is not required, but ensemble experience is a plus. Percussionists are particularly encouraged to apply. As a course auditor or enrolled student, Gamelan scholars will rehearse with the Bates Gamelan weekly on Tuesdays from 4:10-7 with assigned musical parts well-learned. Gamelan scholars must perform with the ensemble in a final concert at the end of the semester. An audition with Professor Gina Fatone is required. Must be able to sit on the floor while playing instruments.
