PW: Purposeful Work Intern Advisor (S99765)

Summary

The Bates Center for Purposeful Work invites applications for a Purposeful Work Internship Peer Advisor. This paid position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Center’s professional staff, particularly the Employer Engagement team, to provide exemplary support for Bates students and external employers in the internship exploration, reflection, and presentation process. This position will be an excellent opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the center’s internship and career resources, develop communication skills to small and large audiences, and gain practical experience that they can use in their future professional endeavors and/or graduate school pursuits.

-Students should be available to work 6-8 hours per week, with some evening events and would start spring 2025.

Responsibilities

Educate and provide guidance to enrolled students on topics surrounding the PW internship search, eligibility requirements, resume and cover letter development/revisions, interviewing, reflection, workplace etiquette, etc.; this work will take place during drop-in hours, at workshops, and at eventsProvide feedback and support to the center’s staff for projects as needed, including to assist with the development of databases, reflective summer programs, and operational policies and proceduresAssist in developing and implementing equitable marketing strategies for PW internship events; provide advice on student trends (especially regarding technology) and publicity methods to reach target audiencesAdvise peers on ways to get involved within internships; provide motivation and support for internship searches; and serve as a sounding boardProvide support on presentation and end of internship reflectionsCollaborate with the center’s staff to promote PW internship and funding deadlines, reflection, and eventsProvide advice to the center’s staff on strategic ways to engage students, faculty, and staff in the promotion of PW internship opportunities and resourcesRepresent the center at PW internship information sessions as neededMust maintain strict confidentiality of student and employer informationAdditional work may include long-term projects, workshop presentations, and assistance with special events. Students graduating May 2025 and 2026 are eligible to apply. We are looking for someone who is interested in professional development and growth within the role and the team.

Requirements

Extensive experience with the internship search and interview processReliability, maturity, attention to detail, and professionalismProven track record of leadership, strong time management, and organizational skillsMarketing experience with modes such as: Instagram, video experience, tabling, is a plusExceptional interpersonal and communications skills, including strong editing, grammatical and presentation skillsAbility to work effectively with and promote Bates Center for Purposeful Work to a diverse range of studentsFlexibility, creativity of schedules and the ability to work in a fast-paced environmentWide-ranging educational experience and professional skillsExperience with work that involves customer service or interacting with the publicProficiency in Word, PowerPoint/Google Slides, Excel, Internet, social media, etc.; ability to learn new technologies and databases quickly; preferably experienced with HandshakePrevious experience with Purposeful Work programs
