Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
This hybrid role supports the essential retail and logistical operations of the Bates College community. You will serve as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, and staff, balancing responsibilities between Post & Print and the College Store, so friendly customer service is essential. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented multitasker who can transition seamlessly from processing retail sales and stocking merchandise to managing package distribution and high-volume print production.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Customer Service and Sales
Provide enthusiastic, professional in-person service to the Bates community.
Accurately process POS transactions (checks, credit cards, and on-account) at both Post & Print and the College Store.
Address inquiries regarding store inventory, USPS/FedEx/UPS shipping services, and print production timelines.
Inventory & Logistics
Retail: Check in new inventory with close attention to detail, proactively clean, organize, and restock shelves.
Mail Services: Receive, scan, organize, and distribute incoming packages and mail.
Data Management: Learn various software as they apply to the operations, including Excel, Google Workspace, SC Logic, Postal Mate, Shopify, Booklog, Adobe Illustrator, and Social Media.
Print Production & Operations
Operate professional office and production equipment, including high-speed printers, copiers, mail meters, laminators, binders, and paper cutters.
Assist staff with print job fulfillment, ensuring all projects meet quality, timeliness, and confidentiality standards.
Perform manual tasks such as folding, stuffing, sealing, and binding material for bulk mailings.
Requirements
Skills & Knowledge
Proven work experience in cashiering, retail, food services, or print center preferred;
Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals from administrators to students;
Ability to operate standard office machines and learn specialized shipping, print, and pos software.
Physical & Operations Requirements
Ability to sit, stand for extended periods, walk, bend, reach, and lift/stoop as needed to handle packages and merchandise;
Ability to work independently, stay self-motivated under pressure, and maintain a professional appearance;
Must be able to work assigned shifts, including potential nights and weekends as required.
