Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

In this position, you will learn how to work in Post & Print. The work includes receiving, scanning, organizing and distributing packages. The position requires excellent memory and organizational skills. Attention to detail and a customer service outlook are critical. Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting and stooping. May be required to work with the College Store on occasion. Will work directly with the Director, Asst. Director & Supervisor of Bates Post & Print.

The print position supports staff with producing work assignments and provides customer service ranging from general clerical duties to printing production work and packaging. The Retail and Production Assistant will be responsible for completing work within Post & Print guidelines for quality, timeliness, customer service and confidentiality.

Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Provide retail customer service in various Post & Print locations.
  • Interact with Post & Print patrons in person, by telephone, by email, or through written communication.
  • Receive instructions and information from students, staff, faculty, and other community members regarding packages, mail, projects and task submitted for production.
  • Operate cash register and handle cash, check, and department accounting code and charge back transactions.
  • Act in such a way as to ensure patron needs are met in a friendly, supportive, proactive, accountable, and cost effective way.
  • Provide information to patrons regarding Post & Print processes, USPS mail, FedEx, UPS, DHL, printing, bulk mail and other services.
  • Operate office, print and mail production equipment: copiers, printers, mail metering machines, folders, inserters, cutters, laminators, strappers, staplers, binders, mail metering equipment, scales and shipping computers.
  • Utilize computers and computer software for data entry, information look-up, typesetting, printing, carrier shipping and estimating.
  • Operate cash registers.
  • Answer telephones.
  • Manually process mail and packages, including stuffing, folding, sealing, inserting, emptying, stapling, cutting, laminating and binding, aligning/jogging paper and supplies.
