The problems facing the world today are so complicated that it’s going to take people who can talk across boundaries and work across boundaries to solve them. If you ask Bates graduates what they value most about their time here, they’ll often say something like, “Bates taught me how to think.” Supported by a dedicated faculty, Bates students learn to explore broadly and deeply, to cross disciplines and to question rigorously.

Breadth of knowledge, depth of study

At Bates you have over 30 departmental and interdisciplinary programs from which to choose your major. Many students choose to double major, which your academic advisor can easily help you coordinate. If double majoring isn’t challenging enough for you, Bates also allows you to create your own multi-disiplinary major.
