Selections from the recent Class Letter: Brad Batcheller is still living in Kuwait. “The year started with the stress of the war, during which I relocated to Qatar, and the family stayed in the UK. My design team has grown and responsibilities have as well. This year I have become a marketing advisor for Education City in Qatar, under the patronage of the Ruling Amir and Sheikha (who I have met and presented to). Leaders who have attended such presentations this year include Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and F.W. de Klerk.”… Betsy Bennett is curator at The Nature Museum in Grafton, Vt. “My partner Joe and I bought a house this past year in the village of Alstead, N.H.”… Julie Cate Wisniewski and Dave ’93 have been to a number of Mark Erelli ’96’s concerts. “His concerts have great energy and are a lot of fun.” Julie directs a public-health program to reduce infant mortality in Worcester, Mass. “It’s a nice combination of implementing a program focusing on pregnant women and infants combined with research to assess what is causing the infant mortality rate to be consistently so high. We’ve been successful improving the birth outcomes of our program participants as well as in the target areas of the city, so are keeping our fingers crossed for continued grant funding over the next four years.”… Marcia Connelly lives arm’s length from an old growth redwood tree in the Santa Cruz mountains. “Back in school for the long haul, pursuing a career in holistic health/integrative medicine. To pay the bills, I am a landscaper and a massage therapist.” … Carl Dragstedt will start his medical residency this July. He and his wife Alissa live in Florida…. Kate Drummond graduated from the Univ. of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and is in an emergency medicine residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland. “I often see Martha MacDougal Magnuson and Joel Smith who both work here in the hospital (and went to UNE!). I still love to ski — with telemark skiing being next on my list of “things to learn.” Does anyone want to teach me?”… Naomi Fields and her fiancé, Peter Hand, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, bought a house in Berkeley, Calif. She is an associate director of operations at Quintiles Strategic Research Services in San Francisco…. Andrea Fleming teaches history at the American School of Lima, Peru. She’s pursuing her master’s in counseling and signed up with the Peruvian delegation to do the NYC marathon in the fall 2004…. Rebecca Foisy Riff is completing an M.S.W. at Penn…. Amy Haas works at a small biotech north of Boston. “It’s nice to have a “real” job (that is, a real paycheck) after being a student for so long!”… Evan Halper married Erin Carroll last summer. “We met while we were both Philadelphia Inquirer reporters. Adam Fifield ’94, Barney Beal, John Kramer, Adam Gordon, and Jay Rasku were the groomsmen. We now live in Sacramento, where I work for the Los Angeles Times, writing about a governor who typically tries to articulate his plan for closing the state deficit with one-line clichés from blockbuster movies.”… Jordan Holt is in a counseling psychology program at Lesley Univ. in Cambridge and has bought a condo in Inman Square. “I continue to own and operate Dog Heaven Dog Walking, where we take groups of 10 dogs at a time by truck to field trips in the woods north of Boston. Also playing a lot with my ’80s cover band, The Reaganomics (I play drums). We’re mostly playing at colleges these days — we even played at Bates first-year orientation last year. Carrie Levesque, Ph.D. in Russian literature in hand, was a visiting assistant professor at Duke in the Slavic department and was applying for new positions, as her contract was up in the spring…. Megan Mahoney and husband Bill Graham ’93 live in Michigan. She has her dual Ph.D. in zoology and ecology from Michigan State and has traveled and done fieldwork in California. “I started a new research position in the psychology department at Michigan, where I study circadian rhythms.”… In 2003, Scott Marchildon and Michele (Decareau ’93) moved into the log home they had built in Bowdoinham, Maine. “I’ve gotten to try my hand at electrical wiring, carpentry, and landscaping and it’s a good thing I have a day job,” he says. Scott’s still with the University of New England and just recently accepted new fund-raising responsibilities. Late flash: their daughter, Greta Catherine Marchildon, arrived Aug. 16!… Eugene McCabe lives in Utica, N.Y., with wife Kristen and daughters Kalean (4) and Molly (9 months). He’s head men’s lacrosse coach at Hamilton College“All’s well on this side of pond,” says Carlos Melville, who works in corporate communication at Morgan Stanley in London…. Tina Mosca, who transferred to Michigan after her first year, says “hi” to Bill Beadie, Colleen Kaman, and Jim Ratcliffe…. Brook Mullens lives in Zurich with Molly Walsh ’96 and our two wonderful children, Isabel (3) and Beck (1). “In addition to being a dad, I am teaching high school biology and coaching running and softball at an international school.”… Kitty Northrop Friedman and Peter ’92 moved to Dallas, Texas, and welcomed Ned’s little sister, Lindley, into the family…. Miye Ogata Horwitz has been living in Wayne, Pa., just outside of Philadelphia, for about two years now. “After Webvan went under in 2001, Dan and I decided to leave San Francisco and move closer to my husband’s family. I am at GSI Commerce Inc., as an e-commerce business manager in our sporting goods division; I manage the Web sites for eight sporting goods companies like The Sports Authority, Sport Chalet, and SportMart…. In addition to recently giving birth, Emily Orr Kelly is preparing to defend her doctoral thesis in neuroscience at Upstate Medical Univ. in Syracuse. She has taken a postdoctoral position at the Center for Aging and Development at the Univ. of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry to begin in early 2005…. Meredith Reed O’Donnell and Rob ’94 live in Ipswich, Mass. Rob works as a program coordinator in the finance office at the Massachusetts Dept. of Education, and Meredith is finishing her master’s at the Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at Simmons College…. Kevin Rodriguez works to launch collections of home products/licensing at Vera Wang Ltd…. Ellen Sampson and Rob Moore ’94 live in Winchester, Mass. He’s a surgery resident at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston; Ellen teaches ninth- and tenth-grade biology at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School.”… Trisha Shepard works in the development office at Dartmouth College while teaching letterpress printing and bookbinding for the student workshop program…. Laike Stewart works at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/Weill Medical College of Cornell. As one of six staff veterinarians, Laik

Raloon Thurston-Kramer Bialek writes: “Grant and I were married in August 2002 and we love living in South Deerfield, Mass. I am running an alternative high school program in Amherst for students with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. I love my students, but they keep me busy!” Grant was due to graduate from the Smith School for Social Work in this past August. “He is already enjoying being a therapist in his internship,” Raloon says…. Jason and Deb Nowak Verner have a new home in Acton, Mass.; Jason continues to work for the Northbridge Group in Lincoln, Mass…. Brad Whipple reports he’s “surviving as a bartender right now. I have a 9-week old Bassett Hound named Big E. Smalls, an 18 handicap at the local course, and a half-finished manuscript on my computer. I spend my summer’s salmon fishing in Alaska.”
