AVC: Ceramic Studio Assistant (S9975C)
Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The Ceramic Studio Assistant is responsible for maintaining the ceramic studio areas, including the kiln room. Light cleaning and re-organization of the tools, buckets, etc. will be the primary functions of the position, but it also includes periodic mixing of the glazes and slips, collection and storage of waste clay/materials, supervision of electric kiln firings, and preparation of demonstration materials.
Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Maintain the studio spaces suitable to appropriate working conditions, e.g., be sure buckets, bats, and waste clay are stored in their appropriate places, and that table and work surfaces are clear
- Be available some evenings/nights to supervise and/or confirm shut off of the electric kiln firings
- Monitor glaze and slip materials, and re-mix as needed or requested
- Prepare demonstration materials
