HCCP: America Reads Tutor (S9935X)
Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The America Reads/Counts Instructors tutor children in elementary schools in literacy and math. With the support of classroom teachers, they assess needs, plan and implement instruction, and monitor the children’s progress.
These students must have good expressive oral readings skills, be self-motivated, and work well independently and with children.
Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
America Reads Instructors will be responsible for the lesson and activity preparation prior to arriving to the classroom. They must have all materials ready for the session before the child arrives. They are responsible for the safety and well being of the child during the reading session. If a behavioral problem arises, they must let the classroom teacher be aware of this and handle it in the appropriate manner as stated by the classroom teacher. They must be able to work independently, be creative, to gauge the mood and attention span of the child and act as a motivator for the child during each session.
Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Background in child development and/or early childhood education, and past daycare work or working with young children
