Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The House Manager handles various tasks pertaining to the efficiency of theatrical performances and the Theater Department.

Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Run the Box Office
  • Handle large amounts of cash ($100-$2,000) and do proper accounting
  • Ticket organization and distribution
  • Poster distribution on and off campus
  • Finding, training, and supervision of Student Ushers
  • Must attend every performance (if there are two workers, they can rotate, but there must always be at least one HM at every show)
  • Crowd control and audience relations
  • Coordination of start of show and intermission with TD and SM
  • Must be prepared to handle emergency audience evacuation (fire, weather, bomb threat, etc.), drunk and disorderly conduct (removal of individual and contact security), enforce fire code laws by keeping aisles clear and prohibiting overcrowding, enforcing departmental policies, and maintaining a pleasant atmosphere for the audience to enjoy the performance uninterrupted
  • Cleaning of the house following each performance and coordination with custodial services
  • Completion of all necessary forms/paperwork/reports at conclusion of each production

Requirements


The House Manager must be a Bates Student and must have management/supervisory experience. It is desired that they have had past experience with box office operations, ticketing procedures, etc.
