To & From Campus

No car? No problem. By working with local and regional partners, Bates is able to offer students, staff, and faculty a variety of sustainable transportation options to & from campus.

FOR FACULTY/STAFF

Portland Area Commuter Vanpool

Bates runs a daily commuter vanpool connecting Lewiston with Portland (Maine’s largest city) and points along the way. Commuters can ride in a variety of ways that fit your schedule. It’s easy, convenient and cost effective– Bates deducts riders’ fees on a pre-tax basis , making it even more cost effective to ride together.

Bates “Commuter” Listserve

This listserve is for Bates commuters to share rides. Post where you’re driving from/to and/or what you’re in search of (e.g. a ride next Tuesday from/to Gray or person to carpool with 2 days a week, etc.). See this map of Bates employees to find others near you.

FOR STUDENTS

Bates Break Shuttles

Bates charters buses to shuttle students to Boston (the Alewife T stop) and the Portland Jetport at the start and end of every break. The cost is $20. See the schedule and sign up at the Student Activities Office in Chase Hall.

Regional Bus Services

There are two regional bus services with stations in Lewiston: Greyhound and Northeast Trailways.

Student Rideboard

Have a ride to offer? Need a ride?  Both students who have cars and those who don’t can post a note on the rideboard in Commons or on facebook. Share costs, reduce your environmental footprint, and meet someone new.
