To & From Campus
No car? No problem. By working with local and regional partners, Bates is able to offer students, staff, and faculty a variety of sustainable transportation options to and from campus.
Portland Area Commuter Vanpool
Bates runs a daily commuter vanpool connecting Lewiston with Portland (Maine’s largest city) and points along the way. For a monthly fee, riders can sign up for a seat. In accordance with federal law, Bates deducts riders’ fees on a pre-tax basis , making it even more cost effective to ride together. For more information or to join, contact Julie Rosenbach.
Bates Break Shuttles
Bates charters buses to shuttle students to Boston (the Alewife T stop) and the Portland Jetport at the start and end of every break. The cost is $20. See the schedule and sign up at the Student Activities Office in Chase Hall.
Regional Bus Services
There are two regional bus services with stations in Lewiston: Greyhound and Northeast Trailways.
Student Rideboard
Have a ride to offer? Need a ride? Both students who have cars and those who don’t can look forward to an electronic rideboard coming soon. Share costs, reduce your environmental footprint, and meet someone new.
GoMaine Rideshare Website
Whether looking for a carpool or a one-time rideshare, the GoMaine website matches drivers and riders seeking to share costs and reduce their environmental footprint by travelling together. It’s extremely easy; register your car as a driver or list your destination and dates of travel when you’re looking for a ride. You’ll instantly see if you have any matches, and qualify for GoMaine’s free emergency ride home program.
