Fitness Facilities are Free to Faculty and Staff
As you may know, the B Well program has partnered with the Department of Athletics to provide free access to fitness facilities to all faculty and staff. Whether you need a structured workout or just a place to move before work, on your lunch break or after a long day, these spaces are yours.

Merrill Gymnasium: Merrill Indoor Gymnasium houses Tarbell pool, a 200-meter, six-lane Mondo Super-X track, and four tennis courts, all newly resurfaced in 2008, making it one of the premier indoor sports facilities in New England. It also features cardio space, a multipurpose room for group fitness and a flex space for B Well Boot Camp and Stretching classes.
Davis Fitness Center: Located on the second floor of Underhill Arena, the Davis Fitness Center is Bates College’s 4,500-square-foot strength and functional training facility. The space features free weights, selectorized strength equipment, functional training tools, and open workout areas designed to support everyone from first-time exercisers to experienced lifters. Davis serves as a hub for personal fitness, athletic training, and campus wellness, providing a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff to build strength, improve movement, and pursue their health and fitness goals.
Tarbell Pool: Tarbell Pool is Bates College’s indoor swimming facility located within Merrill Gymnasium. The pool supports recreational swim, aquatic programming, and varsity training and competition, serving as an important campus resource for fitness, wellness, and community connection. Check the facility hours for open swim opportunities.
Locker Program: Reduce the barrier of bringing a gym bag every day. We provide lockers and locks for employees on-site. Space is limited; contact Dale Plummer at dplummer2@bates.edu to inquire.
