6/20: Get in the Game with Bates Club Sports!
Club Sports at Bates are a great way to build community, challenge yourself, and stay active — whether you’re continuing a sport you love or trying something completely new.
Bates offers 14 competitive club sports teams, including Rugby, Hockey, Water Polo, Soccer, Volleyball, Sailing, Ultimate Frisbee, Women’s Lacrosse, Alpine Skiing, and Men’s Basketball. These student-led teams compete against other colleges and offer a meaningful way to stay involved in athletics while building leadership, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.
Want to learn more? Come to the Bates Leads Clubs, Orgs, and Jobs Fair on Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:00 PM, where you can meet team leaders and sign up for clubs that interest you. You can also explore current offerings and team info online at gobatesbobcats.com/club-sports. We’re also offering a Virtual Meetup for students interested in Club Sports and Intramurals on Monday, June 23rd at 7:00 PM Eastern. You can register for the meetup here.
Special Note about Club Rugby:
Rugby is one of our most storied club programs — known for its unmatched camaraderie, teamwork, and competitive spirit. Because it’s a contact sport and begins early in the fall, students interested in rugby must complete a quick medical clearance process through Sports Medicine. Whatever size you are, if you’re willing to get fit and work hard, there is a place for you on the rugby field, and it’s a sport you can play for many years long after your college career is over.If you’re even considering trying it out, please reach out in advance to Woody Hanstein at whanstein@bates.edu for more information.
For questions about other club sports, feel free to reach out to clubsports@bates.edu — we’d love to help you get connected.
We can’t wait to see you on the field, on / in the water, or on the court this fall!
