Extra Service Pay/Supplemental Compensation
Extra service pay for Bates employees is allowable as part of federal grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements only when it is 1)outside of the employee’s regular work duties, 2)complies with the Human Resources (HR) policy Hiring Employees Into a Second Position (see Employee Handbook), and 3)adheres to the Federal Uniform Guidance regulations (see 2 CFR 200.430(h)(4)).
Before Extra Service Pay can be issued, it must be approved by the employee’s immediate supervisor, the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance (SPaRC), Human Resources, and the Dean of the Faculty as meeting both Sponsor requirements and Bates College policy. Approval for Extra Service Pay should be obtained at the proposal stage and clearly documented in the proposal budget, but must be done before any grant-funded project work begins.
