Accessing Services
Accessing Urgent or Emergency Services
Bates has an established relationship with Central Maine Medical Center to provide expertise and care for students. CMMC is a recognized health care leader in Western and Central Maine, giving Bates students 24/7 access to complete medical care. If you have an urgent medical question or concern after hours, you will have the option to speak to the physician on-call.
To access the physician on-call, call BHS at 207-786-6199.
On weekends, you will receive a message that BHS is currently closed, and please follow the prompts to talk to the physician on-call. When you begin speaking with the physician on-call ask for the family residency and note that Dr. Picard is the primary care provider.
In the case of an immediate emergency, call (207) 786-6111 – this will connect you to Campus Safety and Bates EMS.
The college offers transportation to assist you in getting to a medical provider when Health Services is closed for non-emergency circumstances through working with Campus Safety.

Winter Break Access to Medical Services
The partnership between CMMC and BHS is an essential connection to high-quality medical care and guidance around protocols and best practices for health and residential management of COVID-19. Staff in these areas will be relied upon to support the medical needs of our campus community.
To access medical care during winter break, students will be referred to the Central Maine Family Medical Residency on 76 High Street. Appointments can be made by calling 207-795-2800. Dr. Picard remains as the Primary Care Provider for many Bates students. Dr. Picard, Kathy Morin (RN), Lara Van Tassel (MA) and Daisy Savoy (PSR) will be at the Residency Clinic for continuity of care. Your insurance will be billed for medical care visits.
Outside of business hours, students can access medical care at the CMMC Emergency Department or Urgent Care.

While many students have their personal vehicles on-campus, there remain many students who do not have access to their own personal vehicle or that of a friend. While the CMMC Emergency Department is very proximate to campus, we recognize that students may need access to transportation to get to and from local facilities. There are number of transportation options available:
Bobcat Express
Monday through Friday
The Bobcat Express Reservation Request Form is intended for Doctor’s and Medical Appointments, Prescription Pick-up, and appointments only. The Bobcat Shuttle runs Monday through Friday 10 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Please make your appointments during these times. If an appointment is needed outside of this time frame, we will try our best to accommodate you.
Weekends
The Bobcat Express will transport students for medical care any time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. To request a ride for medical care, call 207-786-6254.
There is also a free Lewiston-Auburn Shuttle, which departs from 56 Campus Ave, next to Chase Hall, Thursday through Sunday evenings. As a special service upon request, the Shuttle driver will take students to and from Central Maine Medical Center and B Street Health Center. The driver will only go to these locations if requested, so if you are headed there be sure to let the driver know.
