Action Required by May 31: Enroll/Waive Student Health Insurance Plan for AY 23 – 24

Opened on the Garnet Gateway on May 17 for new students. Students must log into the Garnet Gateway. Once logged in, select the form titled Health Insurance found under the New Student tab.
Dear Bates College Student,
This email is to notify you that the open enrollment period for the Bates College Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is now open. You must take action to enroll in or request to waive the SHIP by May 31, 2023 if you intend to be a student at Bates for Academic Year 2023 – 2024. Please see further details below.
Students must log into the Garnet Gateway to complete this process. Once logged in, complete the process by selecting the Student Health Insurance item on the To Do List. This will automatically direct students to the Wellfleet secure website. Wellfleet Insurance Group has been selected to administer the Bates College SHIP
Who must take action? All students enrolled in 3 or more classes at Bates College for the academic year 2023 – 2024 are required to enroll in or request to waive the Bates College SHIP.
What happens if I do not take action? At the end of the Enroll/Waive period, students who have not taken any action or have a declined waiver, will automatically be enrolled in the SHIP for the full plan year, and the fee will be placed on their student account.
How to request to waive: In order to request to waive the SHIP, you will need to fill in your information, complete the pre-screening questions, and then upload a jpeg or pdf front and back of your health insurance card.
Your current insurance plan must provide non-emergency care in the State of Maine. Please confirm with your current insurance carrier that as a student studying at Bates College, you will have access to full health care while you are in the state of Maine. Most Out of State Medicaid and regional HMO Plans do not meet this requirement. All waiver requests will be reviewed by Wellfleet within 3 business days. If your waiver is approved, you will receive an email confirmation from Wellfleet, and the fee for the Bates College Student Health Insurance Plan will not be charged to your student account. If your waiver is declined, you will receive an email notification with additional instructions. Please follow the instructions and provide the information requested. If you do not qualify for a waiver, a fee will be placed on your student account and you will be enrolled in the SHIP for the full plan year.
How to enroll: Students who know they would like to accept the Bates College SHIP can make the selection to enroll on the Wellfleet Insurance Group website accessed through the Garnet Gateway.
What is the Fee? The deadline to request to waive or enroll in the Bates College Student Health Insurance Plan is Wednesday 5/31/2023. If you do not have an approved waiver, a fee of $2,896 will be placed on your student account, and you will be enrolled in the Bates College Student Health Insurance Plan from 8/15/2023 through 8/14/2024.
