MUS: Music and Wellbeing Community Performer

Accomplished student instrumentalist or vocalist will perform with others in a monthly concert for patients at St. Mary’s Recovery Center in Lewiston (walking distance to campus). Student will take part in program creation in consultation with Prof. Gina Fatone. Audition is required. Vaccination screening is required.

Gamelan Ensemble Scholar

A gamelan scholar will be a student musician with strong aural and rhythmic skills who models rhythmic strength within the Bates Gamelan Ensemble. Prior experience with gamelan is not required, but ensemble experience is a plus. Percussionists are particularly encouraged to apply. As a course auditor or enrolled student, Gamelan scholars will rehearse with the Bates Gamelan weekly on Tuesdays from 4:10-7 with assigned musical parts well-learned. Gamelan scholars must perform with the ensemble in a final concert at the end of the semester. An audition with Professor Gina Fatone is required. MUS: Choral Scholar

A choral scholar should be a Bates student in good academic standing with excellent aural skills, musicianship, and sight-reading ability, serving in one of the major choral voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass). Choral scholars will sing in the College Choir (either for credit or as an audit), which includes rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday, 4:15–5:45pm in Olin. Choral scholars must also be able to perform at the final-term concert. An audition with Professor Kuriyama is required.
