Nominate A Student To Become A Writing or Language Tutor

Do you have a student who showed perseverance and resourcefulness with their writing or language-learning processes in your class? Do you know an empathetic, encouraging, and dynamic collaborator who enjoys writing or talking about writing–or learning about and speaking a second language–with others? One of the most wonderful ways we find the best tutors for the Writing & Language Center is through faculty, staff, and student (peer) nominations; the nomination form is very brief.

NOTE: You must be logged in with your Bates credentials to access the Google Form.

Please be aware that a nomination is not the same as a recommendation and does not guarantee the student a position as a tutor in the WLC. Once you submit a nomination, we will reach out to the student, let them know they’ve been nominated, and encourage them to apply during our hiring season (January-March) for work as a tutor the following school year. All students must complete an application and interview with us to be considered for the position of tutor. We also recommend to all applicants that they register in March for a tutoring theory and education course (like EDU s19 Theory & Practice of Writing and Tutoring) either in short term or in the fall semester, though other training and professional development opportunities may be made available.
