Class of 1947 reunion 2007

Class Secretary: Elizabeth Hill Jarvi, 286 Dublin Rd., Ludlow VT 05149, bjarvi@tds.net

Class President: Vesta Starrett Smith, 222 Dartmouth College Hwy., Haverhill NH 03765, vesmith@together.net

Dick and Phyllis Smith Baldwin '48 and Phil Isaacson held a mini-reunion at the Downeast Wildlife Art and Carving Show in Portland last September. Also, because of the occasional power outages this summer, caused by falling trees and other storm-related problems, Dick has installed a propane-powered standby electric generator.... Stan and Madeleine Richard Freeman write that their major involvement is still with the Penobscot Valley Senior College, where the motto is "Learning for the Fun of It." They've had fun taking courses in such things as constitutional law, exploring religions, word usage, and reading Chekhov. Their daughter, Martha, was appointed director of the State Planning Office by Maine Gov. Baldacci.... Ar Friend has retired from the Museum of Modern Art and is spending summers "in beautiful Columbia County in upstate New York" and winters in New York City.... Fred Jones had an article published in Multihull Magazine…. Ken Munroe teaches handwriting analysis at UMaine-Augusta, which he says is lots of fun…. Ruth Olfene Strickholm has moved back east from Loveland, Colo., to Lyndeborough, N.H. Husband George was diagnosed with Alzheimer's several years ago, and is now in a nursing home in northern Vermont. He was also recently diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer…. If all went as planned, Vesta Starrett Smith is nearing the end of her around-the-world journey on the Queen Mary II. She and daughter Kathy left in January and had 33 ports-of-call on their agenda…. Her "magnum opus" complete, Marcia Wilson Lindberg can finally enjoy some golf. She spent 20 years writing a 966-page book called Early Lynn Families, documenting five to six generations of earliest settlers of Lynn, Mass., from 1621 through the Revolutionary War, including all deeds and wills. Copies were donated to libraries in Lynn, Nahant, Lynnfield, Saugus, and Swampscott.
