A Degree in Earth and Climate Sciences: Jobs, Salaries and Projected Job Growth

A bachelor’s degree in EACS at Bates can prepare you well for beginning a career in the geosciences, and/or environmental science.

In 2024, and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for geoscientists  was ~ $99,000.   The median annual salary for environmental scientists was ~$80,000.  These salaries represent the median (half the salaries are below these values and half of the salaries are above these values) for working geoscientists (except hydrologists) and environmental scientists in all fields and at all levels. Some of the salaries in this statistic are for folks with advanced degrees (Masters and/or Doctorates).

With continued high demand for workers in the fields of resource management, alternative energy extraction and planning, and environmental protection, the number of jobs available in the geosciences and environmental sciences are projected to grow!  Between 2024 to 2034, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an increase in job availability of 3-4% in geosciences and in environmental sciences.
