BOC Leadership Meeting Minutes: 2/6/23

  • Mitchel.
    • Winter Carvinal coming up.
    • Pinlenand trip. (Claire)
    • Climbing trip. 
    • Two vans are needed for the cross-country trip. 
    • Are trips coming up this Sunday?
      • Hiking, Skiing?
    • A Sugarloaf trip coming up. 
  • Rock climbing meeting. (Mitchel)
    • The next BOC meeting could be a rock climbing meeting. 
    • Liina can teach some rock climbing skills at a seminar/meeting.
    • Teach a pre-climbing test for the EVO trips. 
    • Start a reset of the wall while teaching some type of climbing seminar (switch out between groups). 
    • Meeting with someone to figure out the investment to buy a new board.
      • Maybe still keep the old one so more people can climb?
    • Climbing wall hours so people can supervise/work?
  • Ethan.
    • Puddle jump volunteers? EMS? 
    • Thoughts on the current schedule of Spring trips?
      • All of them are on the current calendar and have sufficient planning that should make them possible.  
    • Is any plan in place for a torchlight run?
      • Probably not possible at this point. 
  • We have leftover Acadia rentals from AESOP that can be used to turn into a trip this Spring. (Catie)
  • It could be trips that go/camp together but do different levels of activity on different days. (David)

    • March 17th, Heidi running a snowshoe trip. 
    • April 14th, Acadia with Alli, David, Lucy, and Levi.
      • Finals week, so it could be moved to April 21st.
    • EVO during March.
      • Friday’s 4:00-8:00, possibly? (Liina and Nathan)
      • Van drivers are needed. 
    • Moose Hillock. (David and Noah)
      • March 4th-11th.
    • Open Sunday if anyone wants to claim a trip. 
    • Been a lot of interest in Catie leading a trip in May.
    • White water rafting trip. 
    • Cutler Coast.
    • Backpacking Presidentials. (Claire)
      • Dependant on the weather. May 14th-15th. 
    • Exploratory climbing? (Liina)
    • Possible overnight trip leader training March/April
  • Tommo.
    • Been planning some surf trips.
      • An overnight trip during short term to short ridge house by Popham Beach. 
      • Sustainable surf lessons.
        • Maine Surfers Union at Higgins Beach does surf lessons with all gear provided.
          • June-September, good for next fall. 
      • Some day trips during short term.
      • BOC battleship. 
  • Planning for next Fall. (Catie)
    • Clam Bake September 24th. 
    • Baxter State Park “kickoff.” (Mitchel)
      • Reservations are 4 months rolling. Tentatively September 16th-17th. 
    • Peaks Week, September 9th-16th. 
      • It could be a heavy week for us to plan trips every day during the first week of school. 
  • No show policy?
    • If you do not show up for one trip or cancel within 24 hours it is a warning, and if you do it a second time you can not show up to any trips for the rest of the year. Policy can change depending on how long the trip is.
  • Rewriting constitution within equity and inclusion.
    • Catie and Mitchel have a goal to have it done in the next couple of weeks. 
  • Heidi.
    • Thursday from 7:45-9:10 Heidi is going to LHS for “outdoor class” to talk about winter gear information and lead a fun snowshoe demonstration.
      • Could also happen with Montello Elementary School and Edward Little. 
  • AT Ideas.
    • At some point people will come to one of the BOC meetings and do a presentation on maintaining our part of the AT. 
    • April/May maintaining the trail. 
  • Dedicated Short Term planning with trip leaders in March? 
  • Boat day to repair boats. (Catie)
  • Monthly van rentals? (David) 
  • Senior oriented BOC events? (Nathan and Ethan)
    • Rent out Short Ridge. 
    • No reason there can’t be the BOC within senior week. 
  • Email Mya any election process ideas.
  • Leadership meetings twice a month rather than once for an hour and a half. This would rotate with BOC meetings and would be a meeting everyweek. (Catie)
