Structural Geology and GIS

In the Structure and GIS labs we have a variety of tools to help in the collection and processing of field-based bedrock data sets to better understand the geologic origins of mountain belts. We also use fault shear box analog models to investigate deformation processes. Students have access to: GPS-enabled data loggers used to collect field data, rock saws for thin section preparation, mineral separation facilities for zircon geochronology, and GIS work stations used to create geologic maps and landscape renditions using LiDAR data.
