My name is Alex Appleton and I am from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina on the IFSA Argentine University Studies Program. I am on the rowing team as well as a co-president of the Manic optimists acapella group. I am a neuroscience major and a hispanic studies minor. My experience in Argentina was incredible and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a very unique abroad experience. I had the opportunity of having an internship alongside my university classes which was incredible and so rewarding. I hope to help folks get out there and explore the world, and learn about new cultures and languages.

My name is Misora Hashiramoto, and I’m a senior majoring in Economics. I’m from Tokyo, Japan, where I grew up before transferring to a high school in New Hampshire in 10th grade and eventually coming to Bates. This past fall, I studied abroad in Milan, Italy. I’ve also had the opportunity to study in many different countries, including Australia, England, and the U.S. I understand that the study abroad process can sometimes feel overwhelming and scary, so I’m really excited to help students take some of that stress away and guide them toward their ideal study abroad experience and adjusting to life at Bates as an international student!

My name is Inês Reis, I’m from the Azores, Portugal, and I’m a double major in Environmental Studies and Sociology. I spent the last two years of high school studying in Costa Rica in a multicultural environment. At Bates, I participated in an Earth and Climate Science Short Term in New Zealand and studied abroad in Bhutan, traveling throughout the country and learning about the environmental and social dimensions of the Himalayas. As an international student who has experienced studying abroad and engaging with different cultures, I believe international experiences are powerful ways to grow, challenge our perspectives, and learn from others. I’m excited to help students explore opportunities abroad and support international students at Bates!

My name is Axelle Tougouma, and I am a senior studying Economics and Mathematics. I was born and raised in Burkina Faso and completed the final two years of my high school education at UWC Thailand. During the fall of my junior year, I also studied at American University in Washington, D.C., through the Washington Semester Program.

Having had the opportunity to study in different countries and educational environments, I am excited to share my international education experiences with you and support you as you explore your own study abroad journey!

My name is Sam, and I am a Philosophy and Hispanic Studies double major at Bates. I was born and raised in a small town in Vermont and this past academic year I spent studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. Through this experience I had the opportunity to explore all throughout Spain and Europe, learning about so many different cultures while also becoming very proficient in Spanish. I am excited to share my experiences with you all and get people interested in global education!
