Designated Houses

Every year houses are designated as Theme Houses, Quiet, and Healthy Living by the Office of Residence Life and Health Education. In addition to the Residence and Dining Regulations, there are additional requirements to live in these designated houses. By selecting or being placed into these houses, students agree to the following from the beginning of the first semester until the end of the Short Term.

Quiet Residence:

Cheney House and Whittier House
  • Noise must be contained within my room (i.e. radios, speakers, TVs, and other devices should not be heard outside my own room).
  • If noise can be heard and others ask me to be quieter, I will lower the volume of noise coming from my room.
  • I will speak at a conversational level when in the public spaces in the building.
  • I understand that my visitors must abide by the same guidelines stated in this contract.
  • I also understand that I am responsible for their actions while in the residence.
  • I will be respectful and courteous to my neighbors in regard to noise level.
  • I understand that violation of any of these conditions will likely result in my removal from the residence.

Healthy Living Residence:

In Healthy Living housing, students cannot return to their residence under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. These substances are also prohibited from the residence. Living in a Healthy Living residence allows students to develop a close, vibrant community without the presence of drugs and alcohol. Tobacco is prohibited from all campus residences.

Clason House and Wood Street House
  • I will at no time possess or use alcohol or other drugs within or outside of the residence. The only exception is possession of any controlled substances prescribed by a physician.
  • I will at no time smoke any substance within or outside the residence. This includes but is not limited to cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, and marijuana.
  • I understand that my visitors must abide by the same guidelines stated in this contract for the duration of their visit. I also understand that I am responsible for their actions while in the residence.
  • I understand that violation of any of these conditions will likely result in my removal from the residence.

Theme Houses:

Theme Houses will be determined each winter for the following academic year. Theme Houses are proposed by upper-class students, and proposals must go through an application and approval process.

  • In residing in a theme house,  I acknowledge that I will be removed from the housing room selection process. I will not be given a room selection time, and I will not choose a room through HouseCat.
  • I understand that my residence in this house is contingent on my participation in the house’s theme and positive contributions to its community experience and that my right to remain in the house is dependent upon that.
  • I understand that I must submit a housing application through HouseCat in order to be housed in my indicated Theme House.
  • I understand that violation of any of these conditions will likely result in my removal from the residence.
