About

Cigole Thomas received her PhD in Algebraic Geometry from George Mason University followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Colorado State University. Her research lies at the intersection of algebraic geometry and number theory. In particular, she focuses on dynamics of varieties over finite fields. She is also interested in Mathematics Education and enjoys thinking about how math is taught and learned.

Winter Semester 2026

Calculus I

MATH 105

While the word calculus originally meant any method of calculating, it has come to refer more specifically to the fundamental ideas of differentiation and integration that were first developed in the seventeenth century. The subject's early development was intimately connected with understanding rat…

Introduction to Abstraction

MATH 221

An intensive development of the important concepts and methods of abstract mathematics. Students work individually, in groups, and with the instructor to prove theorems and solve problems. Students explore such topics as proof techniques, logic, set theory, equivalence relations, functions, and alge…

Fall Semester 2026

Calculus II

MATH 106

A continuation of Calculus I. Further techniques of integration, both symbolic and numerical, are studied. The course then treats applications of integration to problems drawn from fields such as physics, biology, chemistry, economics, and probability. Differential equations and their applications a…
