Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Outdoor Programs Managers will work closely with the Coordinator of Outdoor Education and Programs to plan and manage all activities put on by the Bates Outing Club. The OPM’s will hold a big picture view for the BOC which will include setting goals at the beginning of the year and tracking progress on those goals. They will manage the committee chairs for the BOC and hold the committees accountable to their goals. They will also work with the COEP and the Trip Leaders to set a trip calendar for each semester at the beginning of the semester. Further, the OPM’s will plan and lead all BOC meetings, which will function as a space for folks with a shared interest in the outdoors to connect. “Meetings” is a loose term, and can encompass anything from facilitated social activities to film screenings or discussions. This is a one-year paraprofessional role in the office of campus life supporting student club programming and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities


-Set goals for the BOC at the start of the year and track progress on those goals throughout the year -Work with the COEP and Trip Leaders to set a trip calendar at the beginning of each semester and assign leaders to trips -Check in regularly with committee chairs on activities and progress, and advise or direct as needed -Communicate and liaise with other offices and organizations both on campus and in the wider community, and in doing so represent the BOC as a professional organization -Meet weekly with the COEP -Write once a semester updates to the BOC alumni community in conjunction with advancement -Uphold and advance a culture of equity and inclusion in the BOC -Provide student perspective when making decisions with COEP

-Ability to work as part of a team -Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and outside entities -Knowledge of outdoor activities and a passion for the outdoors -Commitment to equity and inclusion, and an awareness of the specific ways groups have been marginalized in the outdoors -Ability and willingness to manage peers
