Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
SPAs will represent the student voice in the planning and promotion of philanthropy-related programs. They will educate peers about how donor support enhances the student experience using facts and personal perspectives. They will serve as visible, positive ambassadors for philanthropy through tabling, outreach, events, and general presence on campus. SPAs will play a vital role in the development and implementation of the revamped Student Philanthropy Program.
SPAs will work closely with the Office of Advancement and as a team to plan campus-wide events and programming. Students in this role will learn about not-for-profit work and fundraising. SPAs will sharpen skills in communications, event planning, and project management. SPAs will steward alumni donors by writing thank you notes.
Requirements
No prior experience with institutional philanthropy is necessary – we will train you!
Qualified SPA candidates will be:
Enthusiastic about the college and committed to strengthening community culture;
Comfortable talking to peers, faculty, staff, and alumni about student life and college values;
Organized, reliable, and willing to take initiative;
Interested in leadership, social media, service, non-profit work, and institutional development.

Reporting
SPAs will work together closely on team projects in addition to individual responsibilities. Additionally, SPAs will meet with various members of the Advancement team, including members from Alumni Engagement, Annual Giving, Advancement Communications, Leadership Giving, Parent Giving, and Advancement Equity and Inclusion. All SPAs will be directly supervised by Jem Bullock, Office of College Advancement.
Working Conditions
In addition to office work, SPAs will staff events, table in Commons, and be present elsewhere on campus. They are expected to carry materials to and from events, which may require heavy lifting. SPAs may be required to stand for extended periods of time.
