Sexual Harassment

The Bates College Policy of Sexual Harassment states that sexual harassment of or by employees and others has no place and will not be tolerated at Bates College.

The President advises the faculty, staff, and students that there are adequate grievance procedures in effect to facilitate prompt reporting of specific acts of sexual harassment at Bates, and urges members of the college to report such acts so that appropriate action may be taken.

Sexual Harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when:

  1. Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual’s employment
  2. Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for employment decisions affecting such individual
  3. Such conduct has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment.
