The Museum is pleased to once again welcome local artist Lesia Sochor to Bates for two workshops on Ukrainian egg decorating on Thursday, March 26, from 10 AM to 12PM and 1:30PM to 3:30PM in the Muskie Archives. Pre-registration will be required via Eventbrite. Each workshop is capped at 20 participants. Tickets are $8 for General Admission and free to Bates Students, but students must still register, as space is limited.

Pysanka egg decorating is a long-held tradition in Ukrainian culture. The practice uses wax-resist to create intricate patterns on the shell of an empty egg. Melted beeswax is applied to the egg using a traditional stylus tool called a kistka. Then, the egg is dipped in several dyes to form the final pattern. Artist Lesia Sochor has been practicing Pysanka egg decorating for decades, and is eager to share her skills with the Bates community. All materials for this event are provided by the artist, and extra take-home kits will be available for purchase after the event.

Registration opening date and workshop location to be announced.
