Bates Alumni Collectors Society

Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell Street, Lewiston, Maine 04240

Event at Pavel Zoubok Gallery, New York, NY, 2018

Background:

Bates students of all disciplines have benefited from the museum’s collections and gallery space to support their research, exhibit their own work, learn first-hand how a museum functions, and gain invaluable internship experience. It is the Museum’s goal to broaden knowledge of art by continuing to build a strong collection for future generations. With the help of enthusiastic alumni, the museum can establish a viable means to allow for the purchase of acquisitions to expand the collection.

Goal:

To raise additional acquisition funds for the Bates Museum of Art from passionate alumni and build a broad base of support for the museum and the arts at Bates.

Structure:

  • The group will collectively raise $2,500, or more, each year for the acquisition of a work of art identified by Museum staff. The group will view the artwork available for purchase, and vote on what works should be purchased. Artwork will supplement and enhance the existing collection. The final decision and arrangements of the purchase will be made by Museum
  • All artwork purchased will be credited as “Museum purchase with funds donated by the Alumni Collectors Society”.
  • Each year, the Alumni Collectors Society, will host a gathering to allow for broader engagement with the Museum, network and promote the society, view possible acquisitions, and visit galleries or current museum exhibitions.
