Design Team Student Graphic Designer

The Office of Communications and Marketing (BCM) seeks a creative, motivated Student Graphic Designer to support the visual storytelling and branding efforts of the college. This position works directly with the Design Team and is ideal for a student interested in graphic design, marketing, and strategic communication who is eager to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

CO: Photographer Video

This student will shoot still photographs of Bates-related activities, as assigned by the Office of Communications and Media Relations. The Student Photographer will have their own camera.

CO: Student Liaison

The Student Partnership Intern position helps to create a partnership between the Bates Communications’ Design Team and the student body, and to improve our representation of student life here at Bates, with specific focus on accurately and empathetically representing the experiences of BIPOC students at Bates. The Student Partnership Intern will be a strategic member of the design team, communicating about design projects with students, soliciting feedback and ideas from students about design priorities, and helping to set up rolling focus groups with current students and the design team to gather responses, feedback, and suggestions. Priority will be given to applicants who have an established commitment to antiracism work and interest in communications, design, or marketing.

CO: Digital Communications Assistant

Our website, bates.edu, gets over 10 million page views per year and is maintained by over 400 campus WordPress users. The student in this position will take the lead on helping our campus web users work within WordPress optimally. They will also support the college’s communications efforts by assisting with various digital projects such as social media outreach and SEO). 6-20 hours/week. This position will be for the fall semester, with possible extension through the winter semester and/or Short Term.

CO: Editorial Assistant

Editorial Assistants for Bates Communications and Marketing help support the creation of editorial content — news articles, feature stories, listicles, social media copy, and other written content that informs, educates, entertains, inspires, and engages Bates audiences. Bates editorial content is published across the college’s major communications channels, including BatesNews, Bates Magazine, and social media, forBates alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and prospective students. Prior BCO Editorial Assistants have found this position to gain exposure to the everyday workings of the media and communications industries; absorb helpful experience in writing and editing; learn the workings of a professional office; and gather journalistic writing samples for a portfolio. CO: Social Media Assistant

Want to be a vertical video social content creator for Bates? From prospective and current students to parents and alumni, Bates’ social media presence is one of the key ways we reach and engage our audience. The Bates Communications and Marketing Office is looking for a social media associate to help support the college’s social media presence and explicitly help us grow and scale our short form vertical video production capability. The ideal candidate follows latest trends on TikTok and Reels and is excited by perfect timely edits to sound and music. The social media associate will also help develop long-form content ideas for Instagram Stories.
