Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Officiate Intramural Sports contests including: basketball, flag football, futsal, soccer, softball, volleyball and various special events. Maintain a high sense of integrity while consistently and fairly enforcing the rules of the game. No prior experience is required, as training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Referee Intramural Sports contests and enforce all rules and policies
  • Set up and breakdown the activity area and equipment at the beginning and end of every shift
  • Examine the playing surface before every game to ensure safe playing conditions
  • Use appropriate signals and mechanics
  • Maintain a high level of sportsmanship and penalize unsporting behavior
  • Communicate any problems or concerns to the Supervisor
  • Provide sportsmanship ratings after each intramural contest to the supervisor
  • Resolve conflict within the frame of Intramural competition
  • Accept feedback from Supervisors and look to improve each shift
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of, communicate and enforce all guidelines and procedures
  • Maintain a safe, enjoyable, secure, and clean environment for members, guests, and staff
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-services and trainings
  • Uphold the mission and values and be an active representative of the Department of Athletics
  • All other duties assigned as by the supervisor and other Athletics staff

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Work environment can be warm and noisy at times. Also may be required to work outdoors in cold or warm temperatures and weather. Physically demanding and requires the ability to: climb stairs; push, lift and carry heavy load; distinguish colors in accordance with color-coded system; stand for long-durations.

Requirements


Requirements:  Flexible schedule; hours include mornings, evenings, and weekends (minimum of 6 weekday hours or two shifts per week)  Must be able to lift/carry/move at least 40 pounds  Must be able to run and stand for extended periods of time  Will be exposed to variety of weather conditions, including: heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, etc.  Position requires black athletic apparel and athletic shoes  The ability to effectively monitor and communicate to members, guests, co-workers, and professional staff while maintaining a high standard for customer service and safety  Punctuality, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines; Good oral and written communication skills  Indoor and outdoor work required
