Guest Chef Susan Reid

Bakers at Bates!!!

Do you suffer from Pie Anxiety? Roll dough only to see cracks like the Grand Canyon opening before you? Despair of ever getting a slice of pie out of the pan intact?

Help is here.

Chef Susan Reid (class of ’79) is back on campus to teach you all she knows about pie. A 20-year veteran of the King Arthur Baking test kitchen, Chef Susan has taught pie dough to
thousands of baking demo attendees all over the country. Her method for all-butter pie crust has helped bakers everywhere put a pie they’re proud of on the table. In this demo you’ll learn

  • How each ingredient functions in the dough
  • How to roll a crack-free crust
  • How to get an Instagram-worthy top with zero stress

She’ll have examples and samples of different dough methods for you to see, touch, and taste. There will be snacks, tons of information (ask her anything!), and laughter.
