For Evaluators
  • Peer Review of Teaching: The Committee on Teaching and Learning developed recommendations for peer review of teaching in collaboration with the Faculty Personnel Committee.
  • Letters on behalf of colleagues may be submitted here.
  • Student evaluation letters are an important part of the personnel process. This page has information about them and a form for students to submit them.
For Candidates

  • The Second Year Review: All faculty on an initial four-year tenure track appointment participate in a formative assessment in the fall of their second year at Bates.

Personnel Committee (FPC)

The Faculty Personnel Committee makes recommendations to the president in matters of reappointment, tenure, and promotion. The committee is composed of the president and the dean of the faculty, ex officio, and seven elected members of the faculty.


Endowed Chairs

Endowed Professorships. Bates has more than 30 endowed professorships to honor exceptional teaching faculty. 


Retirement

We seek to support our faculty over the course of their careers and are grateful their association with Bates continues once they retire.
