Writing Committee
Charge of the Committee: The Writing Committee serves as a collaborative space where committee members share information and expertise to support writing across the curriculum at Bates College. The committee stewards the writing-attentive curriculum, and reviews W1 and W2 course proposals to assure that these courses include writing instruction and outcomes aligned with current curricular standards. This review precedes final approval of course proposals by the Curriculum Review Committee. The committee may offer recommendations and consult with faculty, other committees, and campus partners in response to institutional goals, writing initiatives, and the evolving needs of student writers.
Composition: Four faculty members (ideally one from each division), the Director of Student Writing (ex officio), a representative from the library (ex officio), a representative from the Dean of Faculty’s office (ex officio), two students.
