Maine Landscapes: Then and Now

June 12 – September 25, 2010

Opening Reception June 12

Landscape of Maine, Then and Now exhibits paintings by Lewiston’s beloved landscapist, Delbert Dana Coombs from a period between 1880-1905, in contrast with contemporary Maine Landscapes by a diverse group of artists from 1980-2005. These works, from the Bates Museum of Art’s collection, aim to create a dialog in respect to the ways in which the landscape in Maine, as well as the artist’s methods, and ideology has shifted within this century.

This exhibition was organized with assistance from Museum interns Charlotte Weidlein ’09 and Andrea Svigals ’10.
