Susan Moldenhauer (American, b. 1951)
In Moldenhauer’s work, a woman is wrapped in a cloth amidst a Western landscape. Her face is obscured with fabric covering up her features. Although her identity remains anonymous, Moldenhauer’s shrouded form blends in with the beautiful, barren background, creating images that are enigmatic, abstracted, stylized, and performative.
Moldenhauer received arts degrees from Penn State University and Northern Illinois University with an early interest in illustration and printmaking. She has since worked as a curator at the University of Wyoming Art Museum. Moldenhauer co-founded the Laramie Artist’s Project, the Laramie Mural Project, and the Laramie Public Art Coalition. In 2016 and 2023, she won a Wyoming Visual Arts Fellowship Award for her photography.
