If you are studying at Bates on an F-1 Visa, you are only eligible to work On-campus
International students can apply for all On-campus jobs on Handshake as soon as they receive Handshake access. This access is usually given in August, the summer before their freshman year, and does not have to be renewed. All international students must have a U.S social security card to work on-campus. You do not have to wait until you have your social security card to apply for jobs. During freshman orientation, all international students have the opportunity to come to the Student Employment Office to start the process of filling out employment forms. You will need to bring your passport with your visa and your I-20 form to this meeting. International students will then work with the Dean of International Students to finalize receiving their social security card with the Social Security Office.
