HCCP: Robotics Team Mentor (S99905)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Lewiston Regional Technical Center (grades 9-12) plans to start a FIRST Robotics Team to compete in the 2019-20 season. The team will be required to build a robot that completes a specific task. The team mentor will actively share his/her/their knowledge and experiences with the team to help foster intellectual growth. He/She/They will provide students with opportunities to make (safe) choices, both good and bad. This position pays $12/hour

Duties and Responsibilities. Other Duties May Be Assigned Regarding the Team:

  • Allow and encourage independent thought amongst the team
  • Encourage open communication within the team
  • Foster a reciprocal foundation of trust and respect
  • Encourage effective facilitation
  • Promote independent thought
  • Develop roles within the team

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


While performing the duties of this job, the mentor is regularly required to communicate and receive verbal or textual information. The mentor frequently is required to move - for example, throughout a classroom or building. The mentor may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs - for example, building supplies for the robot. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements


The ideal candidate will be a(n)... Clear and effective communicator, Observant learner, Punctual individual, Skilled leader or project manager Strength in one - two of the skills below is helpful, but not mandatory: Accounting and/or is competent with spreadsheets, Computer Science, programming, and/or robotics (or similar field), Education or facilitation/coaching experience, Strong math, science, and/or computational skills, Industrial/Vocational Shop Experience - carpentry, welding, electricity, engineering, etc.

Reporting


The mentor (or mentors) will work closely with the staff at the Harward Center (Ellen Alcorn), the computer science coordinator for Lewiston Public Schools (Alicia Biggs), and staff at the Lewiston Regional Technical Center.
