Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a voluntary program designed to assist Section 8 (subsidized) and public housing residents to achieve economic independence through education, job training, financial literacy training, and employment. With the support of local programs like the Lewiston Housing Authority , FSS combines case management, life skills training, and fiscal management. FSS works with families in setting realistic goals in order to reach the point of economic self-sufficiency. Collaborating community agencies include: the Career Center, Abused Women's Advocacy Project, Department of Human Services, among others.

The United Somali Women of Maine is a Somali-directed Women's Center that serves as a safe space that is respectful of gender and cultural practices of the Somali and East African community. The Center creates safe space through the provision of staff and services that takes into account refugee identity; prior work and educational experience; needs and skill levels, inclusing language proficiency; and the need for support services such as childcare and transportation. The USWM was formed in 2001, by director Fatuma Husseum, to respond to the arrival of a significant population of Somali refugees and secondary migrants.

Tree Street Youth is a young nonprofit organization located in the Downtown "Tree Street Neighborhoods" of Lewiston. Our mission is to support the youth of Lewiston-Auburn, Maine through Academics, Arts, and Athletics. We provide youth with a safe place that encourages healthy physical, social, emotional, and academic development while building unity across lines of difference. Each day during our current after school program we serve between 120-150 youth of diverse backgrounds. Our current enrichment classes include hip/hop dance, step, cooking, visual arts, basketball, yoga, girls and boys support groups, karate, book club, and photography. As an organization we encourage all youth to explore all higher eduction options and future opportunities as they become life-long learners, engaged citizens, and contributors to society.

Pine Tree Legal Assistance is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status established in 1966 by private attornys in maine to promote access to justice by providing high quality free legal assistance that is responsive to the immediate needs of individual low-income clients and to address the long-range barriers to justice affecting low-income people in Maine. Pine Tree provides free individual representation in core service areas such as: housing, health care, and income. In addition Pine Tree manages several important projects including: a Farmworker Unit, Native American Unit, KIDS LEGAL, Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, a Family Law project, and a Foreclosure Prevention project.

MPA's purpose is to bring individuals and organizations together to realize shared goals. They focus on leadership development to increase the number of citizen leaders prepared to work for positive social change. They are known for their ability to do grassroots organizing and education that reaches more than 100,000 Mainers each year with direct personal contact and quality leadership development work that has yielded dozens of leaders and staff for MPA and other organizations. MPA maintains offices in Bangor, Lewiston, and Portland. Current work includes: immigration issues, pressuring Maine delegation to fund social programs over the war, racial justice issues, and lobbying at the State House.

One student for each four hour shift. Students will be asked to rotate shifts so that everyone will get a chance to participate in different aspects of veterinary medicine. The Downtown Educatioin Collaborative, a partnership of four colleges and two community organizations in Lewiston and Auburn, began an academic success program in 2008. The program runs Monday-Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30pm at the Lewiston Public Library and offers academic assistance for middle and high school students in a positive and encouraging environment. It is primarily attended by ELL students. They are dedicated and ambitious students, but they struggle academically and are grateful for any time you can commit to helping them. If you are looking for an opportunity to help youth not only succeed in school but to build their confidence, here is your chance!

Bates and Lewiston Housing Authority have collaborated for many years on sustained programming to support children and families at the Hillview Family Development subsidized housing community. Currently, there are two after school programs. On Mondays and Wednesdays middle school aged children get homework help and participate in crafts and recreation activities. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a group of middle school girls meet to work on various activities in an innovative aspirations program.

Clover Health Care was founded in Auburn, ME in 1974. As progressive leaders in health care, Clover Health Care was the first to introduce the concept of continuum of care in the state of Maine. Their resident-centered approach accommodates varying levels of care and assistance according to an individual's changing needs and requirements, from assistant living to Alzheimer's care to hospice care. Activities include socialization groups, crafts, visiting, and participation in other resident-centered programming.

Best times to work with residents are 9:30am to 11am and 1:30 to 3pm Monday through Friday.

Since 1955, the Auburn/Lewiston Clubhouse has offered afterschool programs for children ages 7-18. The Club provides a safe environment for young people to learn, build character, and be with friends after school and during the summer. With an annual membership to the Clubs, members can enjoy the learning center for homework assistance, the art room to create something exciting, get active in the Club's gymnasium, and enjoy a nutritious snack each day.

Subsidized residential housing for the elderly and adults with disabilities. Work with Resident Services Coordinator and Bates student coordinator to develop and implement socialization activities to get the two populations to come together.

Hours are variable, though there is a regular brunch on Sundays. Students meet at 11am to walk to Blake St. Towers together to serve a noon brunch.
