Life After Bates

As you consider post-Bates plans, we recommend that you:

Investigate international fellowships and graduate scholarships, including the Fulbright and Watson fellowships.  Contact Robert Strong, the Graduate Fellowships Advisor.

Explore work and volunteer opportunities abroad.  The Bates Career Development Center and the Off-Campus Study Office web pages on work and volunteer opportunities abroad are a good starting point.

Review the career information and advice that CIEE provides to students who study on their programs.  The information and advice are relevant for all study abroad returnees.

Consult with an advisor in the Bates Career Development Center how to utilize effectively your study abroad experience when applying for jobs and to graduate school.  Develop and practice responses to these questions:

  • How did the experience change you?
  • Aside from the travel, what skills did you develop?
  • How does the experience make you a stronger candidate for our company/graduate school?
