Sam Yates Gallery Talk “Joseph Delaney: Taking Notice”

Noted university gallery director and curator Sam Yates discusses works in the exhibition Joseph Delaney: Taking Notice. Yates is deeply knowledgeable about the Delaney’s life and work, having interviewed the artist, curated the first retrospective exhibition of his work, and having been instrumental in having Delaney be honored with the position of Artist in Residence at University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Sam Yates has been curating significant exhibitions since the mid-1970s. He has often organized important early solo shows of prominent artists. In addition to Delaney, these artists include Alice Neel, Peter Saul, Benny Andrews, Mary Beth Edelson, and Les Levine. He has been been Director of the Ewing Gallery of Art + Architecture, University of Tennessee since 1980.
