Ka Bogso (Be Healed)

In this week’s blog post we lift up a recent article in the Bates student newspaper about an exciting community-engaged research collaboration between one of our longtime community partners, Fowsia Musse of Maine Community Integration, and Harward Center Faculty Fellow, Assistant Professor of Psychology Yun Garrison. The two have been working together for several years to develop a theory of Somali refugee women’s intergenerational healing and growth. As part of that process, they recently collaborated with artist Won Kyoung on Ka Bogso (Be Healed) –a visual art display that depicts the five dimensions of Musse’s theory of healing.

We hope you enjoy this story of how art and shared experiences brought these three women of color together, and that you’ll check out the exhibit when it finds its home in downtown Lewiston.

UPDATE: Check out this photographic montage of the event, compiled by Professor Garrison. The event was, as one attendee described, “a precious moment of Beloved Community — people of all stripes coming together with art, music, and food to recognize the journey of struggle and resilience undertaken by refugee women in our midst.”
