Campus Improvements

Guided by a comprehensive facilities planning process, Bates has created a range of superb new buildings and spaces since 2006 that address the needs and interests of our academic community.

The major ongoing project in 2010 is the transformation of two historic buildings, Hedge Hall and Roger Williams Hall, from student residences into homes for a range of academic programs.

By 2008, completed projects were new student housing near Mount David; a new Commons Building to replace outmoded dining facility in Chase Hall; and Alumni Walk, a cross-campus pedestrian walkway to connect the two and redefine the campus center.

Students stroll along Alumni Walk during the fall 2008 semester at Bates.
