Keith Blanchard saw John DeGange ’91 with his band, Last Kid Picked, in Manchester, N.H. “They are really good and play at a lot of nice clubs in the Northeast.”… Darrell Crate is the new state Republican Party chair in Massachusetts. His first priority is to gain enough seats in the state senate to ensure veto power for the Republican governor, Mitt Romney. Darrell is also a new Bates Trustee…. Along with some friends, Kevin Doyle founded the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival in 2002. They produced three shows that summer and three more this summer. His improvisational comedy group, Loose Screws, turned 10 recently…. Things in San Francisco are great for Laura Hawkins-Smith, who sold her dog day care center named K9 to 5, after more than six years. She also co-founded her second dog rescue group and now is taking a breather to spend time with her children. Bruce Kozuma has sung with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the choral arm of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, since 1990. He is an information technology consultant at Wyeth BioPharma…. Zack Robbins, associate director for corporate relations at Duke, moderated one session at a 2003 conference on global corporate citizenship held in NYC. The conference theme was “Transparency: The New Rules of the Game,” and Zach says that folks agree that greater corporate transparency is inevitable, and that if it doesn’t happen voluntarily then it will be forced through legislation and regulation. Oft-repeated phrases from Don Tapscott (co-founder of Digital 4Sight) summed up the mood: “Undress for success” and “If you’re going to get naked, you’d better be buff.”
