Next Reunion in 2004. Got news? Tap out a note to magazine@bates.edu! Hilary Davis is teaching second grade in Carlisle, Mass…. Jason Fraser is regional legal advisor for the USAID missions in Botswana, Zambia, Malawi and Madagascar. “I’m representing the agency on the legal, regulatory, and policy issues that affect Southern African humanitarian and economic development.”… Denis Howard is the development director of community radio WERU-FM in Blue Hill and Bangor. The station was chosen by Esquire magazine in its July 2003 issue as one of the 12 best radio stations in the U.S., as well as one of the 50 best musical elements in the country, the only station honored that is not in a major market. And now for something completely different: As part of an American Movie Classics Mother’s Day promotion last year for the movie Down with Love, Denis and his mom won a trip to the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. They attended a movie screening, star-style. According to the story in the Ellsworth (Maine) American, “Soon, [Denis] was lined up on the red carpet (pink, actually, by edict of the movie’s promoters) with the film’s stars Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor. ‘Renée was wearing a thin black dress,’ explained Howard. ‘It was weird to actually see goose bumps on her.’ Howard also reports that the actress was ‘shorter and skinnier’ than he expected.” Said Denis later, “I should also mention that Ewan McGregor had those same qualities — it was shocking to see Obi-Wan Kenobi as a typical short Scotsman. All the actresses, Bai Ling, Jeri Ryan, Rachel Weisz, were very thin.”….. Sally Theron has received a grant from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation that will enable her to complete her dissertation on attachment and gender role socialization at Michigan State Univ. She is one of 10 winners nationwide to win such a grant in women’s studies.
