Information for Attendees of Senior Week 2024 Events

Campus Life and the Senior Week Committee are excited to welcome you to Senior Week, starting Tuesday, May 21. We’re sharing this message to advise you what to expect at Senior Week events.

Campus Life strives to build a culture of belonging where all members of the community feel valued, and our events are safe, inclusive, and fun. For questions about accessibility or to request accommodations, please contact campuslife@bates.edu, or 207.786.6305 no later than five days prior to the event.

Arrival & Entry Process

When you arrive on site at any event, expect there to be a line. Please attempt to stay in as close to a single-file line as possible, and do not push or crush against others in an effort to get into a bus or event faster – this can create an unsafe situation, putting fellow attendees and staff at risk of injury. Please remember that guests, including underclass students and alumni, are not permitted at Senior Week social events, except for the Friday 5/24 Senior & Family Wine & Cheese Tasting. All other events are for the class of 2024 only.

Tickets are required for the Maine Beer Company Takeover – once you have a ticket, you’re guaranteed entry. As a reminder, you must take the bus to attend the event. Please do not drive to the event – you will not be permitted entry.

While in line, you will be asked to provide Bates ID. If you have a purse or small bag, you will be asked to open it for a brief visual search. If you have a liquid container like a water bottle, you will be asked to empty it. If you are wearing outerwear like a jacket or a hoodie, you will be asked to unzip it to have the pockets patted down. Once these have been checked, you will be directed to continue forward in the line. Once you get to the front of the line, a Campus Life Event Staff member will greet you and request your ticket or Bates ID to be scanned, and will then wristband you – you’re in!  If you haven’t already, please download Bates Engage Mobile to your smartphone, and login at least once before coming to a ticketed event – it will help you locate your ticket faster! Here is the iOS link, and here is the Android link.

Plan Ahead for Weather

Most Senior Week events are occurring in outdoor venues, and will happen rain (barring thunderstorms) or shine. Be sure to check the weather forecast prior to attending outdoor events, and plan ahead. As of Friday, May 17, it is looking like it may be a bit chilly most nights, so we generally recommend layering with sweaters or jackets to help stave off the cold.

Alcohol Advisements

If you plan on drinking alcohol, please remember to bring a government-issued ID to the Maine Beer Company Takeover – public venues are required to ensure everyone they serve alcohol to is over the age of 21. You will not be served if you do not have your ID.

While at on-campus events, please bring your Bates ID, and stay within the fenced area while drinking alcohol.

Staffing

There will be a number of staff on site at each event to help make your experience as enjoyable as possible. This includes Campus Life Event Staff, Taylor Made security staff, Campus Safety, custodial staff, and Dining staff. We encourage you to review the Roles and Responsibilities section of the Campus Life Event Policy to understand what each staff member’s function is at an event.

In Case of Emergency

Please look out for your friends and fellow Batesies. Should you, a friend, or someone nearby need assistance during an event, please locate a staff member. If you are in need of emergency response while at an event on campus, please contact Campus Safety at 207.786.6111. If you are in need of emergency response while at an event off campus, contact 911 immediately. Bates Campus Safety will not have the capacity to respond to off campus events.

That’s it! Our goal in Campus Life is to offer and support events that are safe, inclusive, and fun for the Bates community. For easy reference, please see the event descriptions here.
