Voting Absentee in the 2026 Midterm Elections
Voting Absentee Out of State
Mail Your Ballot By Tuesday, Oct. 27 (for most states)
The majority of states require ballots to be received by Election Day. USPS advises voters to mail absentee ballots at least 7 days before your state deadline, Tuesday Oct. 27 (or Monday, Oct. 26 if you vote in Louisiana). 14 states can accept ballots that arrive after Election Day (postmarked by Election Day). Deadlines for your state can be found here: https://www.vote.org/absentee-voting-rules/
If a state does not provide a prepaid return envelope, students should go to Post & Print, where the cost of regular delivery postage will be covered by the Harward Center.
—> Some states require a notary or a witness, at least 18 years old, to sign the ballot envelope with the voter. A list of on-campus notaries can be found here. State-specific rules can be found here: https://www.vote.org/absentee-voting-rules/
