Amy Belding Brown has published Mr. Emerson’s Wife (St. Martin’s Press, 2005), a meticulously researched, fictional story based on the life of Lidian Emerson, the second wife of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Amy calls her book, “a novel about marriage – its impact on women, its compromises and disappointments, as well as its satisfactions and its potential for growth of individual character.” These days, Amy works down the road from the Emerson house, at the Orchard House museum, the home of Louisa May Alcott, “my role model as a child.”
