Visiting Assistant Professor of Africana: The Africana Program at Bates College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning in August 2024. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, but are especially interested in those whose work focuses on Blackness through feminist, queer, and global lenses, including but not limited to the United States. PhD must be in hand before beginning the job in August 2024.


Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology: The Department of Anthropology at Bates College is seeking to hire a sociocultural anthropologist for a one-year position, starting August 1, 2024. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to the success of historically underrepresented, marginalized, and first-generation students are encouraged to apply.


Assistant Professor of Earth and Climate Sciences and Physics: The Bates College Department of Earth and Climate Sciences (EACS) and the Department of Physics & Astronomy invites applications for a jointly-appointed, tenure-track Assistant Professor in computational Atmospheric, Oceanic, or Climate modeling, beginning August 2024. The new faculty member will be expected to teach at the intersection of earth and climate sciences and physics and to establish an active research program involving undergraduate students.

Visiting Assistant Professor of History: The Bates College Department of History and Africana Program invite applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of History with a specialization in nineteenth-century U.S. and African-American history beginning August 1, 2024.


Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American and Latinx Studies: The Latin American and Latinx Studies Program at Bates College invites applications for a full-time, non-renewable, Visiting Assistant Professor position in Latin American and Latinx Studies to begin in August of 2024. We welcome applicants from the social sciences with broad interdisciplinary teaching and research expertise in Latinx, Afro-Latinx, and/or Indigenous Latinx people and identities. The candidate’s academic home will be the Program in Latin American and Latinx Studies.


Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics: The Bates College Mathematics Department invites applications for a three-year visiting position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning August 1, 2024. Candidates should have a commitment to undergraduate education and should show promise of excellence and innovation in teaching.  Teaching load is five courses per academic year and includes courses from the introductory to the advanced level.  Faculty at Bates also advise senior theses and capstone seminars.


Visiting Assistant Professor of Politics: The Department of Politics at Bates College invites applications for a one-year visiting position in comparative politics, with a particular interest in the politics of the Middle East. We are open to a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches.

The area of specialization within psychology is open.
