Virtual Meetups

Greetings First-Year Students & Transfer Students, 

Welcome to Bates! We are so excited to welcome you to campus in the fall.

We know the summer leading up to college is an exciting time, and we would love for you to join us for some virtual meetups if you are interested. These meetups are an opportunity for you to connect with other incoming students and Bates College staff who share a similar interest or identity with you via a Zoom video call.

Listed below are the dates, times, and the details of each of the meetups. Feel free to sign up for as many meetups as you’d like.

June 26th at 7:00 PM EDT: Nervous about going to college? Come get your questions answered and meet other classmates that are feeling the same way! This meetup is hosted by and Tonya Bailey-Curry and Meg Hoppe. 

June 27th at 7:00 PM EDT : LGBTQIA+ Students: Are you looking for more information about what LGBTQIA+ student life is like on campus? Come meet with members of our Office of Intercultural Education, as well as current students, to learn more about our LGBTQIA+ community, resources, and support(s) on campus. This meetup is hosted by Dri Huber and Cole Taylor. 

June 28 at 7:00 PM EDT: First Generation College Students: You are a first gen student if neither of your parents have a Bachelor’s (4-year) degree. First gen students are trailblazers for their families and often have additional questions about how higher education works. In this session your hosts will answer many of those questions and help you start thinking about how to prepare to blaze your trail at Bates. Many staff, faculty, and students at Bates are first generation students so you will be in good company. This Meetup is hosted by Shaula Edwards and Fernando Rojas. 

June 29th at 7:00 PM EDT: BIPOC Students: Are you interested in learning about what community and support for BIPOC students is on campus? Are you hoping to  connect with and create community with other BIPOC students in the entering class? Come meet with staff and student leaders from the Office of Intercultural Education to build community and get your questions answered. This Meetup is hosted by Mana Abdi and Tonya Bailey-Curry.
