Our Hiring Philosophy
At Bates College, we understand that good hiring decisions are critical to our success. We take the recruiting process seriously and select only those individuals who are motivated to learn and grow, and who take pride in a job well done. Bates College also recognizes that happy employees are productive employees. Treating our community well is one of our top priorities. Accordingly, we strive to create a working environment that is both intellectually stimulating and personally satisfying!
We are proud to be an active member of the Diversity Hiring Coalition of Maine!
Bates does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, marital or parental status, age, or disability, in the recruitment and admission of its students, in the administration of its educational policies and programs, or in the recruitment and employment of its faculty and staff.
Please note that employment at Bates is contingent on the successful completion of a background screening.
Our Employment Manager, Amie Parker, provides support for hiring managers and search committees in the recruitment and hiring processes. Amie functions as a member of the Human Resource Management team, with a focus on employment-related issues.
Jess Leighton serves as the primary contact for applicants and is available to answer questions about the application process, pre-employment and background screenings.
A key element of recruitment and the hiring process is compensation and classification. Amie works collaboratively with Melani McGuire, Compensation and Classification Manager, to ensure that positions are appropriately classified and that a competitive compensation is assigned to all positions.
